NAVAL TRAINING CENTER, Friday, 8 November 2019 – The Special-To-Service for Intake 18 Midshipmen that began on the 18th August 2019 has officially ended this morning at the Naval Training Center (NTC), Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), Muara.

  

INDERA SAMUDERA, Wednesday 6 November 2019 – Midshipmen of Intake 18 were invited to attend the farewell dinner in conjunction with Pelican Exercise at The Empire Hotel and Country Club. Present during the dinner were Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Second Minister of Defence and His Excellency Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Singapore, Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces and First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Othman bin Hj Suhaili @ Suhaily, Commander of Navy, alumni of Pelican Exercise, senior officers, officers, personnel and officer cadets of Intake 18.

  

JALAN PELABUHAN MUARA, Tuesday 5 November 2019 – All midshipmen of Intake 18 were given an opportunity to visit the Maritime and Port Authority Brunei Darussalam earlier this morning. Accompanying the midshipmen were Lieutenant Commander (R) Pg Omarali bin Pg Jaya Indera Haji Mokhtar Puteh, Lieutenant Shahrul Idham bin Haji Bungsu, RBN and other Royal Brunei Technical Services instructors.

  

ANGGEREK DESA, Monday 4 November 2019 – 21 Midshipmen of Intake 18 of Officer Cadet School, officers and instructors from Naval Training Centre of Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Brunei Technical Services visited the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) earlier today.

  

MUARA NAVAL BASE, Monday 4 November 2019 – All 21 midshipmen of Intake 18 get on board of the Republic of Singapore Ship, Tenacious today in the afternoon. Upon boarding, the midshipmen along with the officer in charge, Lieutenant Mahdini bin Sabli of Royal Navy Brunei, were asked to do a group photo before proceeding straight to the Bridge Room where they were further briefed on the types of equipment available.

  

​ULU TEMBURONG, Sunday 3 November 2019 – It was a memorable day for 21 midshipmen of Intake 18 as they not only get to interact with Naval cadets from SAFTI (Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute) but also experience what the Ulu Temburong has to offer. The midshipmen kick off their day with being dropped at the Jetty at Bandar and accompanying them in this trip were Major (U) Muhd Yusra bin Awang Jafar and Captain Pg Siti Aishah Norpermar binti Pg Hj Abu Bakar. Upon arrival, they met with the other Naval cadets, had a brief introduction and were divided into 6 groups equally before headed to the next destination.

  
Berakas, Wednesday, 30th October 2019- A contingent of 54 personnel made up of Instructors, Physical Training Instructors and Land Force Officer Cadets from the Officer Cadet School (OCS) departed for the Republic of Singapore this morning. The contingent was led by the Intake Commander of OCS, Major Khairul Faizin Bin Hj Gapar. This marks the beginning of a bilateral exercise between OCS and the SAFTI (Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute) Military Institute that will extend from the 30th of October until the 15th of November. During this period of time the Land Force Officer Cadets of OCS will undergo a training exchange and will take on the challenge and experience Fighting in Built Up Areas (FIBUA) in the Republic of Singapore.
 


  

JLN PENGIRAN RAJA BABU, Sunday 20 October 2019 – All 75 Officer Cadets along with Lt Ahmad Rashidi Hatan, RBN, Cpt Abdul Qahhar Mulok and Lt (U) Adi Rusydi Omar took the opportunity to attend the Knowledge Convention Exhibition at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah this morning. It is happened to be open to the public until the 23rd of October 2019 and showcasing the effort of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam in maintaining and preserving Islamic heritage.

  

DEFENCE ACADEMY, TANAH JAMBU, 1st October 2019 – A total of EIGHTEEN Officer Cadets received their rank recognition for the month of October, held at the MESS Hall 1 of Officer Cadet School, Tanah Jambu. Presenting the appointments was the guest of honour, 823 Major (U) Awg Md Yusra bin Jafar, acting Intake Commander of Intake 18. 22021 Midshipman Nabilah Sa’adatul Hayat binti Samsul Hayat got promoted to Cadet Staff Sergeant, 9 Officer Cadets recommended to Cadet Corporals and 8 Officer Cadets as Lance Corporals. The Cadet Sergeant Major, 3 Platoon Sergeants and 1 Lance Corporal retained their appointments.  The system of Cadet Appointment holders provides another opportunity for cadets to be trained in leadership and administration. The system enables Officer Cadets to learn the duties connected with the various appointments with the Platoon on an administrative plane and to develop their character and leadership traits in the process of discharging their duties. For the efficient running of this system, Officers and Instructors will provide the guidance to appointment holders in the correct manner of discharging the appointment holder’s duties. They will not, however, spoon feed them.

  

MUARA COMMERCIAL PORT, Saturday 28th September 2019 – Another memorable day for 21 midshipmen of Intake 18 as they get to visit the The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy training ship Qi Jiguang (Hull 83) that just arrived yesterday, 27th September 2019 for a four-day goodwill visit.  Upon boarding, the midshipmen along with the officer in charge 929 Lt Shahrul Idham of Royal Navy Brunei, were escorted to its lecture room where they were welcomed and shown a short video on the history of the ship. Once the video ended, an exchange session began between the midshipmen of intake 18 and Chinese naval cadets.

  

​TRACK AND FIELD, Muara Naval Base, Saturday, 28th September 2019 – All officer cadets of Intake 18 get to experience international interaction with The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy cadets through various sports today in the afternoon. Such sports are football as the main event, futsal, volleyball, sepak takraw, Frisbee and touch rugby. OCS came as the winner against PLA Naval cadets with 4-1 in a friendly football match whereas the other sports happened concurrently with the main event. Not only the cadets from both countries enjoyed the sports event organized by Muara Naval Base personnel but the Chinese Naval cadets get to bring home new skill and knowledge on how to play Frisbee and touch rugby. While some were playing, the reserved cadets from both sides get to exchange knowledge and also exchange contact details. The sports activities ended at 1630h with a group photo session and exchange token gifts.


  

​​MUARA COMMERCIAL PORT, Saturday 28th September 2019 – all Officer Cadets of Intake 18 were invited to attend the cocktail evening hosted by PLA Navy on Qi JiGuang ship. It is a social party purposely made for the attendees to interact and networking while drinking and eating appetizers. The event itself was attended by Commander of Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Othman bin Hj Suhaili @ Suhaily, its deputy, Captain Pengiran Mohamad bin Pengiran Haji Damit and few other officers. Several cultural performances by the host during the cocktail reception while exchanging information with others on board and the night ended with group photos for keep sake.


  

Muara, Royal Brunei Navy’s Track and Field mini Stadium, 21st September, 2019 – OCS’ Intake 18 held yet another sporting event this morning, this time it was a Track and Field Sports Competition organised by 53209 OCdt Abdul Hafiz bin Haji Jimidin and his committee members. The Guest of Honour for the event was Major Khairul Faizin Bin Hj Gapar, the Intake Commander of OCS. The competition was made up of several events such as the 100 and 400 metre run, the 1500 metre run and a 4 x 100 metre relay.  The goal of the competition was to show the physical capabilities and teamwork of the Officer Cadets and establish a spirit of healthy competitiveness between them. The Officer Cadets competed by sections, with 2 Platoon’s 2 Section coming up as the overall champion of the competition followed by 2 Platoon’s 3 Section and 1 Platoon’s 2 Section. The Officer Cadets not only showed improvement in their physical performance but also positive growth in their support of each other displaying a great show of comradery and cooperation. This event was a great success as the Officer Cadets not only had a great workout in the form of running, but also had fun in doing so. 

  

​Tanah Jambu, Defence Academy, Friday 20th September 2019- The Officer Cadets of Intake 18 of the Officer Cadet School (OCS) held their first official debate event this evening. There to grace the event was the acting Commanding Officer of OCS, 768 Major Pg Siti Khatamal Zariah bte Pg Kamaluddin. In order to promote friendly competition between the Officer Cadets, the Officer Cadets were divided into a team consisting of Land Force Officer Cadets and another consisting of a combination of Airforce Officer Cadets and Navy Midshipmen. The aim of the event was to challenge the Officer Cadets’ skills in persuasion and presentation and also hoped to establish strong and confident speakers with high thinking capabilities within the Intake. Both teams fulfilled these goals as they displayed great confidence and passion as they debated on different leadership styles. The topics were ‘Millennial Leaders, Challenges and Opportunities for the future’ and the ‘Islamic Leadership Model.’  Each team managed to score wins in the two topics debated about and came out as equal victors, ending the night on a high note. It is hoped that this event is one of the many more to come.


  

DEFENCE ACADEMY, TANAH JAMBU, 29th August 2019- It was again another proud moment for TWENTY-THREE Officer Cadets as they received their respective insignias yesterday morning at a promotion ceremony in Officer Cadet School (OCS). The promotion ceremony took place at the Officer Cadet's Mess Hall 1, where the insignia presentation was led by the Guest of Honor the acting Commanding Officer of OCS, Major Pg Siti Khatamal Zariah bte Pg Kamaluddin.

  

TANAH JAMBU Defence Academy, Sunday 23 August 2019 - The Intake 18 Officer Cadets of the Officer Cadet School (OCS) held a Tug of War tournament for their organised sports event. Tug of War was the first organised sport activities that was conducted during the first week of their Special-To-Service (STS) Term. The objective of the event was to prosper the values of teamwork and togetherness within the intake through its respective platoons. Present as the Guest of Honour for the event was the Intake Commander of OCS Intake 18, Major Khairul Faizin bin Abd Ghapar. The event was comprised of 6 teams, whereby each Platoon was divided into 2 teams. All 6 teams competed in a double knockout tournament format, where each team had 2 chances to go into the finals and claim the title of the overall Tug of War champion. The event was finalised with a special mini-tournament where each platoon was put to the test with their 12 strongest competitors to go against one another at the Platoon level. The overall champion for the organised sport was a team from 2 Platoon. Ultimately, the tournament has successfully achieved its objectives and it is hope that Officer Cadets will develop the traits of professional sportsmanship as it is greatly valued in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. The event was concluded with a positive closing remark by the Guest of Honour before dismissal.

  

TANAH JAMBU, Defence Academy, Sunday 11 August 2019 - Today, Brunei Darussalam will celebrate the Hari Raya Aidiladha or commonly known as Hari Raya Korban or Haji among the Bruneians. Surau Asy-Syuhada of the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF) held a mass Sunat Aidiladha Prayers in the morning. Prior to the event, the eve of the holy day was enlivened and resounded with melodius takbir, tahmid and tasbih at the Surau which were attended by Senior Officers, Officers and the Officer Cadets of Intake 18 of Officer Cadet School (OCS). The morning event began with the arrival of the Guest of Honor, the Chief Instructor of DA RBAF, Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Mohammad Shamsul Reza bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Tengah. Also present were Senior Officers, Officers and personnel of the Defence Academy. The event was further braced by Officer Cadets of Intake 18 of OCS. The event began with recital of takbir, followed by the mass Aidiladha Sunat Prayers. The event was then concluded with the Aidiladha Sermons which reminded the Muslims to respect and take care of their parents in order to value the sacrifices that they had given. It also reminded Muslims to take this opportunity to be involved with korban and donating the sacrificed livestock to the underprivileged people. The Sermons also helped Muslims to understand the true meaning of Sacrifices as committed by Prophet Ibrahim which signified a remarkable level of Iman and this form of submission should be followed by Muslims for the sake of Allah SWT. The event ended as the attendees shook hands and wished a blissful Aidiladha towards each other.

  

DEFENCE ACADEMY, Saturday, 10 August  2019 - The Officer Cadets of Intake 18 were scheduled to experience their third and final adventurous sports training. This week,  all three Platoons of the intake went to their designated locations based on  a rotate basis. 

  

TANAH JAMBU, Defence Academy, Friday 9 August 2019- Following the End of Generic Term Parade, the Officer Cadet School (OCS) of Intake 18 hosted their first formal dinner in conjunction with their end of Generic Term where it mimics the concepts of a Regimental Dinner as in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). The event took place at the Officer Cadet's Mess Hall at about 1930 hours. Present as the Guest of Honor was the Acting Commanding Officer of OCS, 724 Major Muhammad Ghazali bin Haji Husin who was welcomed by the Acting Intake Commander, 823 Major (U) Awg Md Yusra bin Jafar. Also present were Officers of the School. The event began with the arrival of the Guest of Honor followed by a light refreshment prior to a photo session with the Guest of Honor at the Mess Hall 1 of the Officer Cadet's Mess.

  

TANAH JAMBU, Defence Academy, Friday 9 August 2019 - Today marked a new milestone for the Intake 18 of the Officer Cadet School (OCS) as the Parade for the end of Generic Term took place at the Parade Square of the Defence Academy, Tanah Jambu.

  

TUNGKU BEACH, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 - The Commandant's Challenge for OCS Intake 18 started at the Tungku Beach at around 0001 hours, 31 July 2019. The Challenge covered a total distance of about 22 kilometeres which stretched from the shoreline of the Tungku Beach area to the finishing line at firing field area in Berakas Camp. The Commandant's Challenge was one of the prestigious Challenges for the Officer Cadet School after The CO's Challenge which was held earlier and The Commander's Challenge which will be held tentatively during the final term of the OCS course.

  

​DEFENCE ACADEMY, Sunday, 28 July 2019 - The Officer Cadets of Intake 18 were scheduled for another round of second adventurous sports training. For this week of week 25, all three Platoons were to go to their respective adventurous sports training on a rotated basis of every two weeks which include horse riding, kayaking and archery. 

  

​DEFENCE ACADEMY, Sunday, 14 July 2019 - It was a bright and clear day for the Officer Cadets of OCS Intake 18. As scheduled for the final day of week 23 of the training program, they had the opportunity to be exposed to and learn an advanced obstacle course named High Rope which was situated at a hill top near the MT Line of Defence Academy. It consists a total of 16 obstacles of which, only four obstacles were introduced to them solely for the preparation of the Commandant's Challenge. This will be the first time it was reopened for Officer Cadets as the High Rope was last used by Intake 14 in 2016. There is only one advanced obstacle course in RBAF and the Defence Academy is the only one that has it. The Officer Cadets of Intake 18 was privileged to be able to have this chance to experience it. For the day's program, the Intake 18 were only exposed to four obstacles namely Traverse Jump, Abseil, Uneven Climb and Flying Fox. The PTIs guided the Officer Cadets throughout the training and emphasised on the importance of safety and the main rule was to be in complete personal protection equipment which are helmet, harness and gloves at all times whenever entering the High Rope area or zone. 

  

BERAKAS RBAF SADDLE CLUB, SATURDAY, 13TH JULY 2019 - Twenty-six Officer Cadets of 3 Platoon Intake 18 went to Saddle Club at Berakas Garrison for their first horse riding activity. The Saddle Club is one of the RBAF's facilities which are open for use to all RBAF personnel, particularly for Officer Cadets. It was a new and exciting experience for most of the Officer Cadets. The aim of the horse riding lesson was to introduce the skills required for the Officer Cadets to ride in the hopes that one day they will be able to progress to advance riding activities such as Polo. Officer Cadets of 3 Platoon were also taught on how to groom horses. Upon arrival, 3 Platoon was divided into two groups of thirteen where they will take turn; one group was taken to the stable to get a closer look at the horses and ride them for a good 10 - 15 minutes while other group was given a short and informative briefing by WO1 (U) Pg Anak Ahmad Rapae on the history of the club, horse management and how to approach a horse.
  

​TANAH JAMBU, Saturday, 13 July 2019 - marked another milestone for Officer Cadets specifically for 1 Platoon for being able to learn archery for the first time. The invited coaches are from Ar Rafi Archery Brunei led by the Chairman, Pg Hj Radno Tahir, assisted by the coaches namely, Pg Hj Reza Redzuan, Md Iskandar Hj Jani, Hussain Hassim, Maahyza Mahamud and Ak Zul Helmi. Before taking the first step to archery, the Officer Cadets needs to instil the intention (niat) for learning archery as it is a Sunnah that Muslims are compulsory to become proficient and expert at. Historically, before the invention of rifles and gun, archery was the main weapon that was used during Islamic battles or wars during the ancient time. There are variety of benefits mentioned by the coaches from Ar Rafi Archery Brunei such as boosting confidence, improving upper body strength, refining different skills and technique of traditional archery's positions, flexibility, teaching the meaning of patience and also challenging ourselves beyond our comfort zone.

  

SERASA, RBAF Watermanship Training Center, 13 July 2019-As scheduled, the OCS Intake 18 had the opportunity to take part in kayak water sports. The chosen Platoon for this sport was 2 Platoon. This is to allow Officer Cadets to experience an outdoor activity while in training. It is also a part of OCS’s CCA programme which consists of three outdoor activities; Kayak, Horse-riding and Archery. Each platoon will have their turn to experience all of these three activities by schedules. The aim of kayak activity was to expose Officer Cadets with outdoor activities offered during training as well to provide necessary skills to allow future Officer to be more competent in water sports activities.

  

REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE, Friday 12 July 2019 –Lieutenant Colonel Amirul Adly bin Haji Ali, The Commanding Officer of Officer Cadet School Defence Academy RBAF conducted the third Exercise Planning Conference for Urban Operations Training Package with Officer Cadet School SAFTI MI (Military Institute) Republic of Singapore from 9 to 12 July 2019.

  

MINDEF BOLKIAH GARISSON, Sunday, 30 June 2019. The Officer Cadet School (OCS) of Intake 18 attended the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) 58th Anniversary celebration. The main event was the grand parade which was participated by units from the Royal Brunei Land Force, Royal Brunei Air Force, Royal Brunei Navy and the "Regimen Pasukan Khas" (RPK) as well as the Women Military Personnel. Another main event awaited by the public was the beret handover of His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen which was officiated by His Majesty to signify him as a new member of the Special Force. Following the beret handover event was the Arena performance by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Personnel followed by the static display. The objective for OCS to attend the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Anniversary Celebration was to give a broad understanding and exposure to Officer Cadet about the Royal Brunei Armed Forces identitites, roles and capabilities. The aim was to relate all the theories and practicals they all had learned into practice during the exhibition and static displays.

  

TANJUNG BATU, Thursday, 20 June 2019 – The Officer Cadet School (OCS) Commanding Officer's (CO's) Challenge took place yesterday morning. The event was officially launched with the deployment of the first group of Officer Cadets at around 0600 hours to Tanjung Batu which stretched along the shoreline of Meragang Beach. The last Section to end the challenge was at 1900 hours in the OCS compound. The CO's Challenge is one of the iconic and prestigious challenges that usually took place in the Generic Term of the OCS Course. This will sequentially be followed by the Commandant's Challenge and the Commander's Challenge.

  

TANAH JAMBU, Friday, 24 May 2019 – The Nuzul Al-Quran for 1440 Hijrah was celebrated at a national level on 22 May 2019. The Defence Academy was no exception: this morning, the Defence Academy of Royal Brunei Armed Forces celebrated the Nuzul Al-Quran at the Asy-Syuhada Surau. The event was attended by the Chief Instructor of Defence Academy, Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Muhammad Shamsul Redza bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Tengah as the Guest of Honour. Also present to liven the celebration were senior officers, officers, personnel of Defence Academy and the officer cadets of Intake 18.
